Monroe Curtis Beardsley lived from 1915 to 1985 and was an American philosopher of art who championed an instrumentalist theory of art and the concept of aesthetic experience. Among literary critics he is especially known for two influential essays co-authored with W.K. Wimsatt, The Intentional Fallacy and The Affective Fallacy, both key texts of New Criticism.
