Sidi Mohamed Barkat

Sidi Mohamed Barkat, born in 1948, is an Algerian philosopher based in Paris. He was an associate researcher at the psychology of work and action laboratory at the Conservatoire national des arts et metiers, and after working for several years on questions of epistemology in the social sciences, he directed a research program at the College international de philosophie in Paris on the image and condition of the native Algerian from 1998 to 2004. He proposed the concept of the corps d'exception, or body of exclusion, drawing on the experience of the Algerian population under French occupation, a concept later used by other scholars including Pierre Tevanian.
