Daya Krishna

Daya Krishna lived from 1924 to 2007 and was an Indian philosopher who served as Pro Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan University and edited the Journal of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research for more than thirty years. His doctoral thesis, The Nature of Philosophy, an inquiry into what philosophy itself is and does, was praised by the British philosopher Gilbert Ryle as an outstanding work. His scholarship spanned Indian philosophy, Western philosophy and aesthetics, and his central project was building a dialogue between traditional pandits writing and thinking in Sanskrit and scholars practicing Indian philosophy in English, seeking to examine Indian traditions through their own indigenous concepts rather than only through Western frameworks.
