Bernard Suits

Bernard Suits (1925 to 2007) was an American Canadian philosopher and professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Waterloo, recognized for foundational work in the philosophy of action, the philosophy of sport and game studies. He is best known for The Grasshopper: Games, Life and Utopia, in which he defined game playing as the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles, directly challenging Ludwig Wittgenstein's claim that games cannot be systematically defined.
