Sir Peter Frederick Strawson was an English philosopher, born in 1919 and died in 2006, who spent most of his career at the University of Oxford. He held the Waynflete Professorship of Metaphysical Philosophy at Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1968 to 1987, having previously worked as a college lecturer and tutorial fellow at University College, Oxford, an affiliation he kept after his retirement. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Strawson exerted a considerable influence on philosophy both during his lifetime and since his death.
