Walter Cerf

Walter Heymann Cerf (1907-2001) was a German-born philosopher who fled Nazi persecution and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1943. He held dual doctorates from the University of Bonn and Princeton University and taught philosophy for twenty-six years at institutions including Princeton, the University of Minnesota, and Brooklyn College, where he remained from 1947 to 1971. A scholar of Kant and Hegel, he wrote Kant's Analytic of the Beautiful and produced widely used English translations of Hegel's works.
