Rodolfo Kusch

Rodolfo Kusch lived from 1922 to 1979 and was an Argentine philosopher and anthropologist born in Buenos Aires who studied philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires before undertaking anthropological fieldwork among indigenous and popular thought traditions of the Andes. His work argued that Andean and other indigenous American ways of thinking constitute a mode of thought distinct from the Western philosophical tradition and fundamental to a genuinely Latin American philosophy. Persecuted for his political views during Argentina's 1955 to 1956 military dictatorship, he went into exile in Bolivia and Peru, and he later taught at the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and the National University of Salta.
