Axel Honneth is a German philosopher, born in 1949, working in the tradition of critical theory, who is Professor for Social Philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Jack B. Weinstein Professor of the Humanities in the department of philosophy at Columbia University. He directed the University of Frankfurt Institute for Social Research from 2001 to 2018.
