Justin Martyr

Justin Martyr, also known as Justin the Philosopher, was an early Christian apologist and philosopher who adopted the dress of a philosopher and traveled about teaching. His First Apology defended Christian morality to the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius, and his Dialogue with Trypho engaged Jewish theological objections to Christian readings of Hebrew scripture. He argued that pre-Christian Greek philosophers such as Socrates and Plato had grasped partial truth through the Logos, making them unknowing Christians in his account. He was beheaded around 165 AD under Marcus Aurelius and is venerated as a saint and martyr.
