Alvin Plantinga

Alvin Carl Plantinga is an American analytic philosopher and theologian, born in 1932, who is a leading figure in the Reformed epistemology movement and held professorships at the University of Notre Dame and Calvin University. After earning his doctorate from Yale, he taught at Wayne State University and Calvin College and co-founded the Society of Christian Philosophers in 1983; Time magazine characterized him in 1980 as America's leading Protestant philosopher of God. His significant publications include God and Other Minds, The Nature of Necessity, and works on epistemology including Warranted Christian Belief and Knowledge and Christian Belief. He has received the Nicholas Rescher Prize for Systematic Philosophy, election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Templeton Prize in 2017.
