Hasok Chang

Hasok Chang, born March 26, 1967, is a South Korean-born American historian and philosopher of science who holds the Hans Rausing chair at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge. He is known for developing active scientific realism, an approach to understanding how science actually operates, through research on the history and philosophy of chemistry and physics and on scientific measurement practices. His book Inventing Temperature, published in 2004, won the Lakatos Award in 2006, and his book Is Water H2O, published in 2012, won the Fernando Gil International Prize for the Philosophy of Science in 2013; he also served as president of the British Society for the History of Science from 2012 to 2014.
