Carl Gustav Hempel was a German philosopher, writer, logician, and epistemologist who became a major figure in logical empiricism, the twentieth century movement in the philosophy of science. He articulated the deductive-nomological model of scientific explanation, which stood as the standard model of scientific explanation through the 1950s and 1960s. He is also known for the raven paradox, sometimes called Hempel's paradox, and for Hempel's dilemma.
