Leonhard Praeg

Leonhard Praeg, born in 1966, is a South African philosopher, novelist and emeritus professor of philosophy at Stellenbosch University. He is best known for his book A Report on Ubuntu, a study of southern African humanism and its emancipatory potential in post-apartheid South Africa, and for The Aporia of Collective Violence, a philosophical analysis of the 1994 Tutsi genocide. His work engages African political philosophy, Ubuntu philosophy, and the politics of knowledge production in higher education, including postcolonial theory and curriculum decolonization, and he held positions at the University of the Western Cape, the University of Fort Hare, Rhodes University and the University of Pretoria before returning to his alma mater, Stellenbosch, as emeritus professor.
