Nguyen Trai, pen name Uc Trai, lived from 1380 to 1442 and was a Vietnamese poet, politician and Confucian scholar who served as a principal advisor to Le Loi in his fight against the Ming dynasty, at times attributed with being capable of almost miraculous or mythical deeds in that capacity. He is credited with writing Le Loi's political statements and with convincing the Vietnamese populace to support open rebellion against Ming rule, and is the author of the Great Proclamation upon the Pacification of the Wu (Binh Ngo dai cao).
