Yi Ik, known by his art name Songho, lived from 1681 to 1763 and was a Korean Neo-Confucian scholar, early Silhak philosopher and social critic born in Ansan. He was influential in establishing Silhak, or Practical Learning, as a dominant school of thought in the Joseon dynasty, authoring the wide ranging Songho sasol and the reform minded Record of Concern for the Underprivileged, and he attracted many disciples while extending the intellectual tradition begun by Yu Hyeong-won.
