African And Africana Philosophy

Philosophers working in the African and Africana philosophical tradition on questions of being, existence and selfhood, including thinkers who developed a distinctively Black existentialist metaphysics in dialogue with, and in critical departure from, the European existentialist tradition that influenced it. Gathers philosophers of the African continent and its diaspora whose metaphysical work takes the lived experience of Blackness, racial embodiment and the ontology of the color line as a starting point for broader questions about being and selfhood, rather than treating those questions as raceless abstractions inherited unexamined from a European canon.
