Gloria Anzaldua

Gloria Evangelina Anzaldua was an American philosopher and scholar of Chicana feminism, cultural theory and queer theory. Her semi-autobiographical Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987), grounded in her experience growing up on the Mexico-Texas border, explored the condition of women in Chicano and Latino culture and developed her influential concepts of nepantlism and new mestiza consciousness. She also co-edited This Bridge Called My Back (1981), an anthology of writings by radical women of color, and her work laid foundational ground for Chicana feminist and Latinx political philosophy.
