Guy Hocquenghem was a French writer, philosopher and gay liberation theorist, and a prominent member of the Front homosexuel daction revolutionnaire. His 1972 book Homosexual Desire is regarded as among the first works of queer theory, drawing on Deleuze and Guattari to critique psychoanalytic models of desire and sexuality. He contributed significantly to French leftist thought of the 1970s and 1980s, though his international reputation has remained more limited than his influence in France.
