Iris Marion Young lived from 2 January 1949 to 1 August 2006 and was an American political theorist and socialist feminist who focused on the nature of justice and social difference, serving as Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago and affiliated with its Center for Gender Studies and Human Rights program; her research covered contemporary political theory, feminist social theory and normative analysis of public policy, and she believed in the importance of political activism, encouraging her students to involve themselves in their communities.
