Medieval Scholastic Philosophy

Philosophers of Latin Christian scholasticism and the medieval European metaphysical tradition it grew from, beginning with the late antique figure whose translations of and commentaries on Aristotle supplied scholasticism's basic vocabulary and method, through the foundational patristic synthesis of Platonism and Christian doctrine, to the great thirteenth century syntheses of Aristotelian and Christian metaphysics and the Franciscan school that reworked scholastic metaphysics around individual essence and the primacy of will. Also covers medieval philosophers working in direct dialogue with this Latin tradition from an adjacent medieval religious community, such as a Karaite Jewish metaphysician of the same broad period. Spans roughly the sixth through fourteenth centuries.
