Islamic Golden Age Philosophy

Philosophers of the Islamic philosophical tradition working through Aristotelian, Neoplatonic, and later Illuminationist and Transcendent Theosophy frameworks, from the early Arabic Peripatetics who first rendered Greek metaphysics into Islamic thought, through the great Andalusian commentators on Aristotle, to the Persian Illuminationist school founded on a metaphysics of light and its Safavid era Transcendent Theosophy continuation. Covers philosophers writing in Arabic and Persian across roughly the ninth through seventeenth centuries, together with philosophers working in direct dialogue with this tradition from outside it, such as a medieval Karaite Jewish philosopher shaped by Avicennian metaphysics and a Jewish philosopher working within the Averroist tradition. Excludes modern historians and interpreters of this same tradition writing in the twentieth or twenty first century, grouped instead under Other Metaphysical Traditions or Contemporary Continental Philosophy by their own field of activity.
