Kocc Barma Fall, born Birima Maxureja Demba Xole Faal and living from 1586 to 1655, was a Cayorian philosopher and the Lamane of Diamatyl in what is now Senegal. His thought centered on moderating political authority and valuing the wisdom of elders, employing rationalist methods while avoiding explicit religious discourse and treating questioning as essential to understanding. His philosophical legacy survives as a large body of aphorisms addressing governance, morality and the workings of human community.
