Alejandro Korn lived from 1860 to 1936 and was an Argentine psychiatrist, philosopher, reformist and politician born in San Vicente, Buenos Aires Province. Regarded as a pioneer of Argentine and Latin American philosophy, he directed a psychiatric hospital for eighteen years and later became the first Latin American university official elected by student vote as he led university reform efforts; his philosophical work, developed in opposition to positivism, emphasized creative freedom and axiology, the theory of values, and he was counted among the five wise men of La Plata's cultural renaissance.
