Ayn al-Quzat Hamadani was a Persian jurist, mystic, philosopher, poet and mathematician executed in 1131 at the age of 33. He is primarily known as a Sufi mystic and the author of significant mystical and philosophical works, particularly the Tamhidat (Preludes) and the Zubdat al-haqaiq (The Essence of Truth). Alongside al-Ghazali he is regarded as one of the founders of doctrinal Sufism, and he was executed by Seljuk rulers on charges of heresy, becoming counted among the three martyrs of Sufism.
