Bernard Bolzano

Bernard Bolzano was a Bohemian mathematician, logician, philosopher, theologian and Catholic priest of Italian extraction, also noted for his liberal political views. Writing in German, he produced work in logic, the foundations of mathematics and philosophy that for the most part reached prominence only after his death, when later logicians recognized how far his rigorous treatment of proof and infinity had anticipated developments later credited to other thinkers.
