Claus Emmeche, born in Denmark in 1956, is a theoretical biologist and philosopher recognized as one of the founders of contemporary biosemiotics. He is an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen and heads its Center for the Philosophy of Nature and Science Studies, working across philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, and the study of complex systems and artificial life.
