Do-ol

Do-ol, born Kim Yong-ok on June 14, 1948 in Cheonan, South Korea, is a South Korean philosopher who has worked across Oriental medicine, playwriting and filmmaking in addition to academic philosophy. He held a professorship at Korea University specializing in Oriental Classics and now serves as professor emeritus at Chung-ang University, focusing his scholarship on modern interpretations of classical Daoism through Lao-tzu, the Analects of Confucius, and Zen Buddhism through the Diamond Sutra, work he has also shared through televised lectures on KBS TV. He earned degrees from Korea University, National Taiwan University, the University of Tokyo, and a PhD from Harvard University with a dissertation on the philosopher Wang Fuzhi.
