Eduardo Rabossi

Eduardo Rabossi, who lived from March 20, 1930 to November 11, 2005, was an Argentine philosopher and human rights activist born in Buenos Aires. He earned a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 1955 and a master's degree in philosophy from Duke University, and after the 1966 military intervention at his home university he relocated to conduct research at Oxford University. He is recognized as instrumental in establishing analytic philosophy in Argentina, co-founding and presiding over the Argentine Society of Analytic Philosophy alongside Genaro Carrio, Gregorio Klimovsky and Carlos Alchourron, and editing its journal Analisis Filosofico. During Argentina's transition to democracy, President Raul Alfonsin appointed him to CONADEP, the commission investigating the disappeared, and his contributions appear in its Nunca Mas report; he also served as Undersecretary of Human Rights, testified at the Trial of the Juntas, and assisted Uruguay in documenting the fate of Uruguayan citizens who died in Argentina during the Dirty War. He died in Cusco, Peru in 2005 while attending a professional conference.
