George Herbert Mead, born 27 February 1863 and died 26 April 1931, was an American philosopher, sociologist and psychologist primarily affiliated with the University of Chicago, one of the key figures in the development of pragmatism. He is regarded as one of the founders of symbolic interactionism and was an important influence on what has come to be known as the Chicago School of Sociology.
