Hans-Martin Sass

Hans-Martin Sass (1935-2023) was a German bioethicist and professor emeritus of philosophy at Ruhr University Bochum, where he founded the Bochum Center for Medical Ethics in 1985. He also held a position as senior research scholar emeritus at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University and taught at institutions in Beijing. His work argued for moving health care from paternalistic models of patient care toward partnership models between providers and patients, and he authored more than 250 articles and books.
