Jan Jesenius was a Bohemian physician, anatomist, politician and philosopher active in Prague, where he gained fame for conducting one of the city's first public dissections of a human body for scientific purposes. His career spanned medicine and public life as much as philosophy, and it ended violently: he was publicly executed following the Battle of White Mountain.
