Joseph Chukwuemeka Agbakoba was a Nigerian professor of philosophy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who also served as deputy vice-chancellor of Madonna University from 2013 to 2017. He developed the concepts of reasonabilism and Afro-constructivism within African development philosophy and ethics, arguing that African values can promote development and that creative self-manifestation is a source of African identity. He served as president of the Nigerian Philosophical Association and died on December 27, 2025.
