Max Black (1909 to 1988) was a Russian-born British-American philosopher who was a leading figure in analytic philosophy in the years after the Second World War. He made contributions to the philosophy of language, mathematics, science and art, and published studies of philosophers including Gottlob Frege. His translation with Peter Geach of Frege's philosophical writings has been called a classic text.
