Robin George Collingwood lived from 1889 to 1943 and was an English philosopher, historian and archaeologist best known for his philosophical works The Principles of Art, published in 1938, and The Idea of History, published posthumously in 1946. His writing on the philosophy of history and aesthetics became highly influential in English-speaking philosophy, and he is credited with coining the term historicism and with developing his own account of aesthetic expressivism.
