V. Y. Mudimbe

Valentin-Yves Mudimbe, known as V. Y. Mudimbe, who lived from December 8, 1941 to April 22, 2025, was a Congolese philosopher, academic and author of poems, novels, and books and articles on African culture and intellectual history. He was the Ruth F. DeVarney Professor of Romance Studies and a professor of comparative literature at Duke University, and he also served as maitre de conferences at the Ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales in Paris.
