Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting One's Reason and of Seeking Truth in the Sciences (1637) is Rene Descartes's philosophical treatise introducing his systematic method of doubt. It is best known as the source of the cogito, 'I think, therefore I am,' establishing the thinking subject as an irreducible foundation for knowledge, and profoundly influenced both modern philosophy and scientific method.
