The School of Brentano was a group of philosophers and psychologists who studied with and were influenced by the philosopher Franz Brentano. It was never a school in the traditional sense, although Brentano tried to maintain some cohesion among his students. Two of his most famous pupils, Alexius Meinong and Edmund Husserl, ultimately moved radically beyond his theories and founded movements of their own. Among its members were several founders of new schools: Carl Stumpf, who headed the Berlin School, Husserl, who founded the phenomenological movement, Meinong, who headed the Graz School, Christian von Ehrenfels, who introduced the notion of Gestalt, and Kazimierz Twardowski, who became the father of the Lwów-Warsaw school of logic. Anton Marty developed a detailed theory of language with his disciple Karl Bühler.
