Philosopher entities are the individual thinkers this atlas documents, from the earliest Presocratics through contemporary academic philosophers, each carrying the branch or branches their work is best known for. This band is the atlas's biographical spine: a philosopher's page links out to the schools they founded or belonged to, the works they wrote and the arguments and positions historians of philosophy attribute to them, so browsing by philosopher is browsing the field by its people rather than by its ideas.
